Baby "C" was a joy to photograph. This session took place a few months ago, and I realized I never blogged his newborn session. He was so calm and easy. He made my job easy! The best thing about this post is that it reminds me that I get to see this little guy again tomorrow and photograph his whole family for another session!

I love repeat clients. I love when those repeat clients are as adorable as these two are. I love that their mom has them dressed to cute every time. They are so much fun to photograph and are the sweetest little girls. It was a brisk, Spring morning when we met. It was beautiful and these girls rocked their photo shoot!

Hank turned 1!

Once again, I'm super behind on this blog. I've got lots to post from the last couple of months, so I'll see if I can get on a roll again. Meet Hank. Does this little guy not just melt you? Hank is such a special baby boy. He was born in Ethiopia and came to the United States to join his new family when he was just 7 months old. God had a plan for little Hank and he is truly blessed to be living the life he now has. Look at these eyes of his. This first picture has got to be my favorite from the session. It just cracks me up!

Baby times TWO!

It was so much fun to visit with this family again and seeing these beautiful twin girls all grown up....to 6 months, that is! :) I had the pleasure of taking their newborn pictures back in September and was so excited when Mom contacted me to take their 6 month portraits as well. My how they had changed! The were still as precious as ever and as identical as ever. I had a hard time telling them apart the whole morning. You'll probably see the twin on the left in the first image has a little scratch on her forehead. This is how we told them apart! :) Mom even asked me not to take the scratch out in photoshop so that they'd be able to tell who was who later on down the road. They were so good and so happy. Big sister did great as well and was so excited to have her pictures taken too! Enjoy--

Baby A

I was so excited when this sweet family booked me for Baby A's 9 month pictures. It was extra fun for me, because this sweet little baby is just one day younger than my little gal, so it was neat to interact with someone exactly her same age. Little A was a doll and so full of smiles. It was a great morning, and it was so fun to see some spring attire...I'm so ready for the warm weather to come and stay! :) Notice that we did all the photos indoors though...it was still too cold to go outside. Baby P

Wow. I really haven't posted anything since mid-November on here! That's kind of sad. I have to admit, I've been neglecting this blog for a while now. I have just found it easier and faster to share my client's images on facebook. I have so much to post on here though, and I intend to get caught up with some past clients. We'll see how that goes! This past Sunday I had the pleasure of hanging out with this precious little guy...just 5 days old! He was known in the hospital as the "golden-haired baby" (I think that's what mom said). You can see why from the pictures. I've never seen a baby with this much golden blonde hair. It's so gorgeous! He was such a good baby during our session. You'll see at the end of the post, there is an image of baby P and his Grandpa. This was the first time he had held his new grandson, and it was a special moment, indeed. Little did any of us know that little P's Grandpa would have a heart attack the very next day and be put in the hospital with open heart surgery just two days later. Thank the Lord above that his Grandpa made it through the surgery and is now recovering and on his way back to give P some more lovin. This is what I love about my job. The fact that you never know what life is going to give you. Who knew that this would have happened to this sweet family. I am so thankful that I was able to capture this Grandfather holding his grandson for the very first time and give that memory to them forever. I was so excited over a year ago when my friend called me to book this session. Yes---over a year ago! I thought the day would never get here. They came in from out of town and we had a perfect, crisp, Fall morning for a photo session! Nothing like gambling on the weather more than a year in advance! Marlie is an old friend of mine from back home. We met a LONG time ago, before my family even moved there, and once we did move, she was one of my very first friends. It was great to have a new friend as I started a new school....and Jr. High at that! I hadn't seen her in several years, so I was excited to see her, her hubby and her newest little man! Bee and Nox

I had the pleasure of spending most of last week with these two little cutie pies, nicknamed Bee (2yrs) and Nox (4mos). Their mommy is one of my best friends and while our hubby's were both out of town last week, I decided to make a trip to the East Coast and pay them a visit. Traveling with a baby now is different and requires a lot more "stuff" to travel with. Therefore, I told her that I wasn't going to be bringing any camera besides my point and shoot. I couldn't resist a photo session though once I saw her kids in person! It had been a year since I last saw Bee and Nox was smaller than a grain of rice then! Their mommy has an SLR and I used her camera to take all of these photos. Are they not the cutest??? Enjoy some of my favs below.

Katie's Bridals

Katie and Jason were married on June 6th, and unfortunately I was not able to attend the wedding because I had a one week old baby. I know it was beautiful and a good time was had by all. We were definitely sad to miss the party! Back in March I was in Houston and was able to take Katie's bridal portraits. We weren't sure if it was going to happen because we were very short on time and it was pouring rain all weekend. She was able to find an indoor location at the last minute and we were a little rushed, but in the end I think we were able to get some beautiful shots. Katie was so gorgeous in her wedding dress and was a great sport despite the rain and the freezing cold weather! Enjoy!

Kate's Senior PIctures

I was so excited to get a call from Kate a couple of weeks ago. She was in a hurry to get some senior pictures done, and thankfully I had an open morning and could get them done for her quick! We had such a great time and she totally knew how to work it in front of the camera. She is such a beautiful girl, and it made my job that much easier and so much fun! Thanks Kate and good luck next year!!! In other news, this will be my last post for a while. Unfortunately I have had to cancel the remaining sessions I had booked for May, due to doctor's orders. It's been so much fun to have the chance to photograph twins lately! There is something about them that is so unique and so much fun! I met the mother of these two cuties at The GAP one day when I was looking for some maternity clothes! We started chatting, and the next day she called to book a session! What a blessing! She wanted all B&W pics of her twins for their 3 year pictures. We didn't have weather that cooperated with us, so we just played inside the house and got some fun shots indoors. It took them no time at all to warm up to the camera. Before I knew it we were sliding down the stairs (well, not me:)), playing games and becoming friends! Enjoy!

I am so glad that I got to meet this precious family and take some family photos! Their 5 month old twins were absolutely adorable and their big brother Cooper was just a doll! He was so good with those babies and it was fun to see them interact with each other. The images are a little out of order, the ones of the twins sleeping were taken at the very end of the session. We wore them out! It's tough work to perform so well on picture day! I was happy to get some sleepy shots of them, because you usually don't get that at this age! The Wolthoff family is one of my most loyal clients and I love seeing them every time I head down to Texas! The first time I did a session with this family, little "M" was just 6 days old and now he is such a handsome little 15 month old with an adorable big sister! This family was so much fun to shoot with. For having a 15 month old and a 4 year old, pictures are oftentimes a challenge. Not for these kiddos! They were awesome! You would have never known it was picture day--aside from their adorable outfits and precious smiles! We had a great time exploring all over this amazing yard. The weather was great and things really couldn't have gone better! I loved these first two sequences of little "S" and her mom, so I put them all together. Enjoy! More to come soon!

Chickens, Frogs and Ice Cream

These three things aren't the usual things that come to mind when you think about a photo shoot, but they sure did make for some cute pictures! I met the Wilson family last week and we had a great time trekking around their house and yard capturing a little bit of just about everything! Scroll down to see and read more!

The chickens came out of the coop when the sweets were brought out. They pecked at the sweet stuff as much as the kids did! I'm surprised the images came out sharp because I was laughing so much!

Baby Nolan

Courtney and I have been best friends since the 6th grade. The awkward days of Jr. High are where our best memories began! After I moved away in the 8th grade, she was one of the only friends that I really kept in touch with throughout high school. It was so exciting when we found out we were going to be college roommates, years later. Even more years have passed since our college days, and we continue to go through life's biggest experiences together. Engagements, marriage and now having babies! I'm so glad to be able to experience pregnancy and motherhood with so many of my closest friends. I was so excited that during my trip to Houston I would be able to meet Court's new little Nolan. He was just two weeks old when we did his newborn session, but oh so alert! We didn't get many of those sleepy newborn pictures because he just wanted to know what was going on in this new world around him! He did such a great job and we got some great shots. I love you three!!! Enjoy!

Sweet Little Allie

Last Friday I had my first of many sessions while in Texas. Meet Allie and her mom Katie. Katie and I went to elementary school and Jr. High together, lost touch for a while, and then ended up in the same dorm at Texas A&M. Therefore, our friendship was re-kindled as freshman in college and we've kept in touch ever since. You might remember Katie from one of my sessions this past summer. Little Allie was still "cooking" in the belly then, so I was so excited when we set up to do another session so that I could meet the little Miss. She did so great during the session. I shot for nearly 2 hours with no meltdowns until the very end! She was a trooper! Enjoy and stay tune for lots more to come!

Hello blog world! It's been quite some time since I've been on here, but it's good to be back! I had a newborn session late last week with this little cutie. It was my first newborn session in a while, and it was so great to be able to be around such a tiny baby and get a little baby fix! It took us a while to get little "C" calmed down...she did not like to be nude! Once we did though, she completely relaxed and made my job easy! Enjoy! Wow...I have really been dropping the ball lately when it comes to blogging! I was connected with this couple through facebook...which I love for advertising! Kristina contacted me last summer and booked me to shoot her and Brent's engagement pictures next time I was in Houston. It was a while, but she was patient and I finally made my way down south late November. It was a gorgeous fall day...a little bright and sunny, but beautiful nonetheless! They brought along their dogs and thank goodness we both brought assistants to keep the dogs because they did NOT like to be out of the picture and away from their mommy and daddy! We had a great time though and I wish these two only the best in the future! It was great meeting ou both and have a blast at that destination wedding next year! Enjoy--

The Etchells Family

A couple of weekends ago, I was given the pleasure to hang out and shoot some photos for an absolutely amazing family. Seriously...how is this woman a mother of four?! Her kids were so fun to be around and I got a big kick out of her 4 year old because he did not want the session to end. Usually fits are thrown at the beginning of a session, this time it was at the end because he did not want it to be over! It was hilarious! You can see why though in the images below...he's quite amazing in front of the camera! I met this family out at Cedar Creek and it was so beautiful. Aside from some crazy wind gusts, we had a great time exploring this new area. I love when my clients make my job so fun and easy, and this family definitely did that and did it well! Enjoy!

Kyle and Ashley Proposal

Kyle contacted me a while back and was so excited to tell me his upcoming plans on how he would propose to his girlfriend, Ashley. It was my first proposal and I was so pumped! According to Kyle, Ashley would have no clue that this was going to be happening. He told me what they would be wearing (he even picked out her super cute outfit AND shoes!) and where they would be. I set out about 30 minutes before they were to arrive to stake out my positions from where I would be shooting from. It was a beautiful, sunny October day at the Nichols Fountain on the Plaza. Sure enough, the cute couple shows up, lingers for a while, talk for a while and even dance together at the fountain to no music. Just watching and snapping away from afar, I could tell that this couple was IN LOVE! They were so adorable with each other and I was getting so giddy as I was snapping the shutter! Once the big question was popped, I slowly made my way over to introduce myself to the lovely couple and then we headed on into the Plaza to have a mini e-session. Kyle and Ashley made my job so easy! They were all over each other in front of the camera in such a natural way, I really didn't have to say a word. It was awesome! Meet the Tucker family. We have been truly blessed by this sweet couple and their little boy since moving to Kansas City. They are such kind, genuine people and always willing to help out in any way, shape or form. We are so thankful for our friendship with them and so happy that they have been put in our lives. I was so excited when Heather called me last month and wanted to book a fall session with her and her boys (and her dog Charlie). We went out to Shawnee Mission Park a couple of weekends ago hoping to find some fall colors in the trees. Not too much color yet, but we ended up getting some great shots anyway! Enjoy!

I met up with this super fun and sweet family last weekend at Unity Village in Lee's Summit, MO. What an incredible place to shoot a session. There were so many fun bridges, fountains, rustic doors...I could have shot there all day. I had a big group that consisted of Grandma and Grandpa, Aunts, Uncles and the cutest nieces and nephews. "C" amazes me every time he gets in front of my camera. I was so excited to hear that one of my older images of him won him honorable mention in a photo contest on cutekid.com!

The Twins are 4 years old!

This post is long over due, and there are many more images to come from my time with the Abidin Family while I was in Virginia. One of the main reasons I visited Virginia last month was to be there for the twins' 4th birthday. How does time continue to speed up so much in life? I can't believe these two little 8 month old babies I used to nanny are already 4 years old! It was so great to see them and their entire family. We had a great week of fun activities and lots of photo sessions, so keep an eye out for more to come. First up...a few from the birthday party and some favs from the twin's 4 yr. session.

Joy's Sr. Session

I met up with Miss Joy last week at the Power & Light District downtown for her senior pictures. She rocked it...let me tell you! It was an absolutely beautiful day with bright blue skies and Joy looked awesome---perfect recipe for some great senior pics! Twin Session

This past Tuesday I was privileged to be able to be able to shoot a session with Rebecca of RPeters Photography. These little guys were so incredibly adorable and did such a great time during the session. With over an hour of shooting, three outfit changes and pushing nap time, there was not one tear or one hint of a cry anywhere. I was impressed! Little Bee is growing up!

It's hard to believe that little "Bee" is already 15 months old! It seems like yesterday that I was sitting with Jen in the hospital the night before she gave birth to such a tiny little beautiful 5lb+ baby girl! While spending some time in DC a little over a week ago, I was able to spend some time with Jen and Bee out in West Virginia. We did lots of girly things. We shopped, we ate, we watched chick flicks and painted our nails...even Bee got a pedicure from me! One afternoon we went to downtown Charles Town to the quaint little Main Street and had a session with Bee. She was such a good little model with her metallic pink pedipeds and brown leggings (which included the cutest little diamond jewels on the ankles!). These are two of my favorite gals on Earth and I was so thankful to be able to spend some time with them! Enjoy!

Samarias Family

It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon when I was reunited with the Samarias family. They were one of my most loyal clients in Virginia, so it was great to see them once again. "Miss Karyn" was greeted with hugs after a long summer away from these cuties. We met up in Old Town Clifton (one of my favorite spots to do children's sessions) and this time Mom and Dad decided to join in on the fun and jump in front of the camera! We played at the park, walked up and down the quaint historic streets, got kicked off the RR track (no shots of that) and then headed over to Peterson's Ice Cream Shoppe! It's hard to believe that it's already time to start thinking about the holidays and all that comes with it! It's such an exciting time of year and I am so excited to introduce a new line of holiday cards for Karyn Kayle Photography. Below are samples of 2008 holiday cards that are available to past, current and future Karyn Kayle Photography clients. These cards are fully customizable. Type can be changed to what you want it to say and colors can be changed as well. Heading Out

I will be traveling back to DC this week for both work and pleasure. The little babies I used to nanny are turning FOUR!!!! Hard to believe. I will be attending their birthday party along with shooting a few sessions and visiting friends that we left behind when we moved in May. I will be fulfilling/shipping print orders when I return. In the mean time, I would love it if you would say a little prayer with me for all of my family and friends living all along the coast of TX this weekend and hope that Ike spares some of his wrath on them!

A few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to attend the Free to Succeed Tour with David Jay and Jasmine Star. It was a great night full of great information and motivation for my business! Both David Jay and Jasmine Star were as great (if not better) than I expected. For those of you who might be blog stalkers like myself, you kind of feel like you get to know someone by reading their blog. It's weird getting to know a total stranger and them not knowing it! :) They were so great in person. Jasmine Star made us laugh, made us cry, and was oh so inspiring. One of the things I loved about the seminar was the Showit Web program that David Jay spoke about. I left and immediately purchased the slideshow program that he promoted and am really excited to start using this feature with my clients. The slideshows can even be purchased as a DVD. This beautiful mother of two boys is expecting her third child this fall. We had such a fun time going out on a gorgeous afternoon last weekend taking her maternity pictures. She has such a kind heart and is such a loving mother. I can't wait to meet number three! Life will be busy with three kiddos under three, but there's not a better woman out there to do the job than her! I met up with the Heath family on a Saturday evening and we had such a fun time. I kind of go way back with this family. I went to elementary and middle school with Katie when my family used to live in Houston, then we reconnected in college when we ended up living in the same dorm. We instantly reconnected and have been great friends ever since. She was even a bridesmaid in my wedding! Then there's her brother, Chris. Him and my little brother started t-ball together when they were wee little tykes and played little league all growing up until we moved from Houston. So it was such a great surprise when they called to book me for a family session. The kids got their parents this family session for their 25th wedding anniversary! What a great gift for some awesome parents! Congrats you two! And by the way, my clients are always asking me what colors they should wear. Hands down, I think Roanne did an AMAZING job of color coordinating all of her family together. They are a perfect example of what I love! Enjoy!

I met up with the Johnsons and we went over to a local park in their subdivision to do our session. Have I told you that it was hot and MUGGY in Houston? I met up with Courtney and Wes last week in Old Town Spring. It was such a great place to shoot with all the different colors and textures. We had so much fun. Courtney and I go way back...all the way back to the first day of 6th grade when we were such little dorks (although we thought we were ultra cool) We instantly became best friends and have stayed that way for going on 18 years! It's crazy! We were college roommates, got married within 2 months of each other, and every time we are together, it only takes us about 24 hours to resort back to our jr. high goofiness! We could sit for hours recounting all the memories we have together. Courtney and Wes just found out they are expecting their first child (hence the "Baby Spring" pic below). I am SOOOO excited for them and know that they are going to be the most amazing parents. Hopefully we'll be able to get together again before the baby arrives for some maternity shots, but if not, check back in the spring for some newborn ones! I love and miss you guys so much and it was so great seeing you two! Enjoy!

She melts you when you meet her! She is a girl with many faces and a daughter that is overjoyed when her daddy walks in the room! It's the cutest thing ever! I don't think I've ever seen a baby smile so big as soon as they see their daddy. Many had told me that it would take a while for Shelby to warm up to you, but she did great! She warmed up fast and was such a doll in front of the camera! I love these images of her!

My Last Beach Session

I met up with the Wolthoff family out on the dunes my last day at South Padre. The session almost didn't happen because of a wreck on the causeway and so much traffic, but we made it in time and got some amazing golden sunlight just before the sun began to set. Last time I shot this family, little "M" was only 6 days old, so it was so fun to see how much he had grown! It was so great to see you all again and I hope you enjoy your photos!

Little Violet was such a doll during our session. We shot for over an hour and she was ALL smiles. Then the meltdown began near naptime, of course...but to last over an hour? I was impressed! She is too precious! We survived the hot and humid weather once again, but it was well worth it! Carter and Jody--I hope you love the photos!

I met this sweet family at the Port Isabel Lighthouse last week. This is where Joe and Jody were engaged, so they wanted to go back with their kids and have a family session here. The light was so beautiful and we had a great time shooting around the lighthouse square and out on the bay. I've known this family for a long time, so it was great to see them again. I couldn't believe how big their kids had gotten! I finished my last TX session tonight, so I've got TONS of editing to do when I get back home. I've had a blast doing all these sessions here. I've got lots of families, some babies, and a super fun engagement session coming soon! Tomorrow is my bro's birthday so it's all about BBQ and a pool party for us tomorrow!

First Beach Session

I'm still down in Texas and escaped Hurricane Dolly by just two days. Thankfully everyone in my family is safe despite the horrible weather they had to go through yesterday. My parent's house flooded in three of their bedrooms and was about 1 inch away from having it come in the rest of the house. They lost a fence and a few trees in the backyard, but thankfully everyone is safe. Having so much family in south Texas, it was hard to be up in Houston knowing what everyone was going through all day. No one has gotten electricity back yet, and the phones aren't working, so it's been hard to get a hold of anyone. I have one uncle with a lot of cattle that were standing in water up to their bellies, so they are busy trying to swim the cattle to safety. Other than that, it's just a lot of trees down, flooded streets and no electricity. Let's hope they get it soon so that the a/c will kick on again because it's HOT down there. The worst devastation was the lost cotton crop. Many of you know that my dad and uncles are farmers and were just starting to pick the cotton crop for the year on Monday and now it's all gone. It's very sad and frustrating to work hard all year long and then see it all go with one storm. So if you will, keep my family in your prayers as they start all the clean up process. On to better news, I had a great week at South Padre Island last week. We were blessed with a week full of sunny weather and lazy days on the beach. I had several sessions while down there and this was the first one I had. It was HOT and HUMID but we managed to sweat through the morning on the beach and get some great shots. Stay tuned, I've got LOTS of sessions to come and five more to shoot in Houston before I leave on Monday.

Antioch Park

Yay for my first KC session! I met these little cuties at Antioch Park last week (thanks for the location idea Rebecca!) Despite the weather looking awfully doubtful, we made the best of it. We waited out sprinkles under a pavilion at one point and ran across the park to another pavilion in an all out downpour at another point. By the end, the sun came out and it was a glorious day! Little "B" and baby "S" were such good troopers and oh so precious in front of the camera! "B" loved the geese, the ducks and the frogs in the "eewwy water" as he called it and "S" had called it a day and was passed out by the end. We had a great time and I look forward for many more fun KC sessions to come! Enjoy!

It was a very well thought out proposal despite the logistic nightmares they had to endure in downtown DC on the 4th. All in all, it was perfect for Miss Meghan and she was one of the most excited newly engaged gals I'd ever spoken to! This 4th of July was a memorable one for our good friends Meghan and Bobby in DC. They got engaged this morning and my other good friend and fellow photographer, Sally Brewer, was able to capture it all! I have to admit that I was a little jealous that I'm not in DC and didn't get to capture the proposal, but there's no other person I'd rather have do it than Sally! Baking and Playing

I had one last session with this special family just days before we got in the car for the long drive to Kansas. It was a nice excuse to be out of the house while the movers were there! This family was such a faithful client of mine and I always had fun shooting them. I love repeat clients...it's so neat to see the children change over the months and to build relationships with them. This family was just that. We always did something different and shot at many different locations so it was great! I will miss them as regular clients, but look forward to sessions when I visit Virginia. See you guys in September!

So for this session, we wanted it to just be very laid back. We played in the yard with all sorts of fun toys, played dress up in the basement and then went to the kitchen and baked a yummy lemon cake with Mom. "I" even surprised us when she ran down in the kitchen all dolled up in her chef costume. How fun!

What a day today was! I had the exciting opportunity to photograph Senator Obama today during his visit to Independence, MO. Never in my wildest dreams did I think a day like this would come so soon! I was able to get access backstage after his speech to take some photos of him and some local Kansas City VIPs. So yes, he actually posed and smiled into MY camera!!! Let me just tell you how nervous I was, but it was amazing! The photos turned out great and I was on a photographer high when I was done! What a day!

After the session with her brothers and sister, Camilla stayed for a little mini-session. We had a full session scheduled, but situations arose and we were only able to do a quick mini session. I was so happy to be able to get these though...who would EVER pass up an opportunity to shoot such an amazingly gorgeous woman! She was so comfortable in front of the camera, so it made my job so easy and fun! I will be traveling back to Virginia for some sessions in September, so we're hoping to reschedule another session! Brothers and Sisters

I am trying to finish up the last of my Virginia sessions this week. I've been so fortunate to have my Mom, Aunt and Grandma in town visiting, so I haven't been able to edit and blog as much as usual. It's been nice though. The house is coming together and I've got lots of new flowers on my deck...it's feeling like home now for sure!

This session was with Suzy's five kids in downtown Clifton. It was so fun watching the five of these kids interact with each other and with their mom. Suzy is not only a wonderful "Baby Coach" but an amazing mother as well. Her kids all love her so much and it was so evident in the short time that I spent with them this particular afternoon.

One A-mazing Family

I met this amazing family last month, and it was such a joy to photograph them! John and Beth have adopted their three children from China, with their son being adopted just a short year ago. They have an incredible story for each child! As soon as we started the session, I could immediately see the love, joy and so many other wonderful emotions come out in all five of them. "J" absolutely adored his father. It was precious to watch. "M" and "S" were such sweet sisters together, and the three of them acted as if they'd been with each other forever. This family has quickly grown to five and it is so evident that God was part of it all. They are truly all blessed to have each other. As the session was wrapping up, "J" , who is 8 years old, told his mom how happy he was to have a family picture now that they are a family together. His comment gave me chills and a tear in my eye. It's why I LOVE this job so much. There's nothing more special than to capture family memories. I loved so many of the photos from this session, so it was hard to choose my favorites. My husband and I ran into some old college friends in Dulles Airport late one night in the beginning of May. We knew that they had recently moved to Northern Virginia, but with everyone's busy schedules we had not been able to get together yet. So it was a great surprise to run into them at the airport. About a week later they called and booked a session with me on Mother's Day. We had a wonderful time venturing around Old Town Clifton. We dodged the rain just in time to get a great session in! Settling In

Well, we've been in our house a little over a week now. I'm trying hard today to start finding a normal routine now that hubs is back to work. I am so excited to be able to do my photography full time from home....even if it is amongst unpacked boxes and misc. things laying on the floor that still need a home! We are close to being done with unpacking. Now it's the fun stuff like decorating and shopping for little odds and ends that we need. We've done lots of cleaning, painting and organizing...almost enough to show pictures of the new place, but not quite yet! Those will come later. It feels good to know that we're here and ready to start our life in KC. I told hubs last night...as weird as this sounds...it feels good to have a phone number and address that we know aren't going to change anytime soon! We had an amazing life in DC and loved every minute of it. We felt like it was home, but never felt fully settled there. I think it was because in the back of our minds we always felt like we'd be moving at some point. So here we are. Homeowners now. Scary and exciting at the same time. I feel like we can finally settle and that makes me happy! I look forward to our time in KC. I know many things are in store for us here and I can't wait to see things unfold. I am so excited about getting my business up and running. I've gotten some great contacts so far and can't wait to see what happens! Until then, I've got lots and lots of fun things to blog from my last few weeks in DC. Now I just have to bury myself into the computer to edit! Stay posted for new things to come!

On the move

We are officially home owners! Our real estate agent called a couple of hours ago and said that the sellers accepted our final offer and we're good to go! The is a day that we've been waiting a long time for. The moving company just left our apt. to see how much stuff they have to move. (It's amazing how much stuff we have fit in our tiny little apartment!) They are scheduled to come two weeks from today and then we're out of here. It's so crazy! The emotional roller coaster started about 2 weeks ago and I'm sure I'll be on it for several more! I'm so excited and so sad at the same time. I am, however, looking forward to our new life in KC and know that it will be a great place for us to start the next chapter in our lives. Oh yeah, and there's a Super Target less than 2 miles away...that will always make me happy!

Our First Home (hopefully!)

Well, It's 12:15am and we finally made it back home to DC from Kansas City after several delays and airport mishaps...but what do you expect these days! We are just thankful to be home. We had a wonderful time in KC, but quite honestly, we're happy to have our own bed back and ready to eat some food prepared by us, not a restaurant! Eating out every meal for 10 days straight does NOT do a body good! So it's a veggie soup diet for this household for the next week!

All in all, we were very impressed with Kansas City and are super excited about moving there now. We are still of course very sad to be leaving so many special people in our life here. While in KC we really tried to explore the city as much as possible. We were able to eat dinner with some new friends a few nights, including the super cool Rebecca of R ebecca Peters Photography and her husband at a great place with great food! We also had to try out a few of the famous KC BBQ restaurants and I have to say, it was pretty good. That's saying a lot from a TX girl here! It is different than TX BBQ though...but still good. It sounds like all we did was eat while we were there, and it's pretty much true...I'm scared to step on the scale in the morning! However, eating wasn't the only thing we did. We house hunted for days! AND.....We found a house!!!! Yipee! We found this house the first day we got there online and put an offer on it the next day! We did look at a ton of other houses before and after, but we just kept being drawn back to this one and the neighborhood it's in. We love so many things about this house and are now just waiting for the mold inspection to come back (hopefully tomorrow). Our awesome realtor has all of our signatures and is just waiting for the call from us to send over the final contract! All of the other home inspections went well, so that was an answered prayer. We are really excited about it all and it's in a great area as well. Here are a few pictures that I took of the house...I took a million more, but these give you the gist of it.

Old Town Session

I met these adorable 21 month old twin sisters last weekend and we had a blast during our session in Old Town Alexandria. I had been wanting to do a portrait session there for a long time, so I was excited to be able to do one before we move. I love the charm and character of Old Town and will miss it when we're gone. We just walked about three blocks and had so many things to capture. The streets and homes are full of so many different colors and textures and really makes for fun photo ops! Little "A" and "S" had fun smelling everyone's flowers, sitting on people's doorsteps and dancing to their mom and myself singing the Elmo theme song to get their attention! Being 21 months old and having almost free reign along the streets made for two very mobile twins exploring everything that was around them. I love this picture and the fun that they are having!

So many of you that know me well, know that I've been a nanny for these kids for the last almost 3 years--Crazy! Like the title says, I'm not a mom yet, but I feel like I've somewhat been one with these kiddos. Being with them for the last three years has taught me so much and has truly prepared me for motherhood. I've changed thousands of diapers, made tons of bottles, cleaned up vomit, dealt with tantrums, you name it--I've probably experienced it. I've also experienced the best cuddles, toddler kisses, and funny laughs that two and three year old sayings can bring...all of this has solidified the fact that there's nothing more in life that I want than to be a mom someday. I just hope that when my time comes, I can remember all that I've learned!

So here comes the sappy part--I'm leaving my babies! We're going on a trip to Kansas next week to do some house hunting and then I come back and only have a few weeks left with my babies. Lisa, if you read this, I'm not trying to make us all cry, but I just needed to blog this. It almost scares me how much I love these kids, because I think about how much I will love my own children. Yes, being around kids all day can make you tired, stressed, and maybe even grumpy at times, but the joy that they bring is unbelievable. At the most unexpected times, they melt your hearts and bring the biggest smile to your face. Their innocence is precious and makes you want to shelter them from the world that we live in today.

I'm not sure what is bringing this post on, other than the fact that it has been on my mind non-stop that my time with these kids is coming to an end. I've cried lots of tears to my husband in the past few weeks and thank goodness he loves these kids as much as I do and is so sweet to me about it.

So with all that being said, I'm going to do one last post of the kids from the newest baby's session last week. Big sister "L", who I call LuLu is just to die for in these shots...well, I am a little biased, but I think you'll agree.

Baby "J" Newborn Session

So here's the rest of the pictures from Baby "J"s newborn session last week. I think I could post a lot more from this session of pictures with his siblings, but I'm going to save that for the next post. It's so fun to capture newborns while they are still so young and sleepy! This little guy did a great job and put up with us moving him all around for a long time. He was so patient with us and hardly made a peep the entire time. I think we wore him out! Enjoy this cuddly little man.

Just 8 Hours Old!

Baby J was born yesterday morning and I had the pleasure of capturing some pictures of him when he was just 8 hours old. It's so amazing to be around such a tiny little person and capture the innocence and emotion that they enter the world with. Sorry for the underlined text...my blogger is having some technical difficulties!

Frying Pan Park

Last Saturday I met up with this fun family again out at Frying Pan Park. It was a little bit chilly, but we had a good time. It was another reminder of how much I'm ready for spring time weather! I hope as the days go on, it will begin to be more like Spring. The flowers are blooming everywhere and it's getting so pretty! The south Texas girl in me is ready for some warm days! Here are some of my favorites from the session...aren't these kids cuties?

There was a horse show going on inside of an arena at the park, so little "I" wanted to go watch. She was so excited to see the horses and explained to us exactly the type of horse that she wants to get.

"E" was getting excited to see the baby calves.

I'm not sure if this is the beginnings of a silly face "N" was trying to make or just a face telling me he wasn't sure about taking more pictures! Either way, he looks like a doll with those big blue eyes!

Christian is turning 2!

Charleston Girl's Weekend

Last week I flew down to Jacksonville, FL to meet up with my mom, aunts, grandma and a couple of cousins for our girl's weekend trip to Charleston. We spent the night at my cousin's house in Jacksonville and then headed out early Friday morning to drive up to SC. We had so much fun together--we laughed a lot, shopped a lot, talked a lot and ate a lot--what we do best! Last year our trip was to Savannah, so I'm hoping this becomes an annual thing and we do it again next year. It's hard now that we are living all over the place. This weekend, we represented Texas, Virginia, California and Florida! I come from such a close family and it's always so nice to get together with each other. I miss them all so much!

A beautiful, historic Charleston home

Saturday night there were tornadoes out and our hotel was struck by lightning. We lost power from 8:30pm to 3:45am! We had to evacuate the rooms and spend 5 hours in the lobby until they would let us go up to our rooms to go to sleep! This picture was taken right after it all happened and we were "scared". It was a little nerve wracking at first...but then just ended up being a big annoyance! We entertained ourselves with PhotoBooth on my Mac and got lots of laughs!

Yesterday I did a maternity session with Lisa out at her bay house in Maryland. It started out a little gloomy outside, but we got some good light before it started raining. Lisa is expecting baby #4 in April, and she looks great! She definitely has that pregnancy glow! Enjoy--

One of the things that I realized at Love Affair is that I really want to get into doing Senior pictures! You can do so many fun things and really incorporate a lot of fashion into the pictures. This is a senior that I did while I was there. I had so much fun shooting her down by a canoe launch on the river. The canoes provided some really fun colors for the shots. Lindsey was so gorgeous and amazing in front of the camera--who wouldn't want to photograph her?!
